MARILYN CHAMBERS: 1952 - 2009 |
|
|
It is with deep sorrow that I write this. Marilyn Chambers died Sunday at age 56. No cause of death has been determined yet. Marilyn was the original Ivory Snow Girl and had a bit part in The Owl & The Pussycat. Then she apeared in the Mitchel Brothers Classic Behind the Green Door, considered one of the best adult films of all time. Marily followed that with The Ressurection of Eve, then the blockbuster Insatiable. Marilyn never over exposed herself, like some girls who made dozens of films, mostly sub par.
She followed up with Insatiable 2 and Up and Coming. She starred in David Cronenberg's Rabid, then the action film Angel of Heat. She had a cable series, then did two come back films for VCA, Still Insatiable and Dark Chambers. She started doing the convention circut and I first me her at Chiller, actually on her 52nd birthday. I had last saw her when we both did a Cinema Wasteland show this past October. She looked great and was always a class act and great with her fans. |
This has hit me hard as we were both the same age, she would have been 57 on April 22. We both came out of the same era as she and I were both "hippies" back in the day. Insatiable was the onlt adult film that I waited in line to see at it's world premire at the Pussycat Threater in NYC. I liked it so much that I took friends to see a repeat performance at the Montauk Theater in Passaic. Marilyn had a scene presence and a smouldering sensuality sorely lacking in todays films. Marilyn had class and was a real lady. She appeared many times in NYC and had a band for awhile. She was always cool to hang out with ,just a nice person who we will all miss. This really sucks but I will cherish my memories of her as will her many fans. RIP Marilyn, you fueled many a fantasy and you will never be forgotten.

RAY FERRY FINALLY OUT OF FAMOUS MONSTERS? |
In a major turning point in the seven-year legal struggle over ownership of Famous Monsters, a federal court Wednesday issued a strongly-worded injunction against Ray Ferry and Connie Bean, ordering them to end all use of the "Famous Monsters" trademark and to stop operating their websites.
Granting a request from Philip Kim, a producer who purchased the Famous Monsters trademark for $25,000 at a bankruptcy sale in 2007, Judge Gary Allen Feess of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, concluded:
"Defendants are hereby ENJOINED from operating the famousmonsters.com, famousmonsters.biz, and filmlandclassics.com websites, and from marketing, selling, or offering to sell any goods or services that contain, or are confusingly similar to, the 'Famous Monsters of Filmland' trademark, or any derivatives thereof, including 'Famous Monsters,' until the present litigation has been fully resolved.
"Defendants failure to comply with this Order may be grounds for contempt sanctions, including possible imprisonment. In addition, Defendants are cautioned that they are not to impose upon this Court any further baseless or frivolous arguments that are directly contradicted or undermined by the evidence in the record, including those that the Court has expressly rejected in this Order.''
This Famous Monsters battle has been an ongoing and sad state of affairs ever since Ferry revived Famous Monsters magazine that later led to a falling out with former Famous Monsters editor, the late Forrest J. Ackerman over tradmark issues. Ackerman won his trademark lawsuits.
Will this prevent future issues of Famous Monsters from seeing print? Right now the matter is in a state of flux. Ray Ferry and Connie Bean don't plan to roll over without a fight.
Connie Bean:
"Right now we have no comment until we read it. Also, I caution you all to realize that we will have our day in court. We don't have to react to anything until we are served with it, so that is what we will do. I am assuming according to what I do know, that we move ahead with Shock and Freaky and go from there."
Apparently, neither Ferry or Bean have been served with the injunction at this writing.
It appears that this litigation will ultimately lead to a final resolution of the whole Famous Monsters trademark issue. The federal court seems to think that Kim has a strong case and will prevail.

If he'd known my reputation for mischief, he might have thought twice about it. On my last day of work, I had to project a Christmas matinee for kids. Before the main feature, I added an unannounced opener to the program called "Satan Claus". I fled the theatre right after my film ended but I heard the owner had to refund the entire box office. CULT ICONS JOIN CAST OF 'GODKILLER' |
Cult icons Lance Henriksen ("AVP: ALIEN VS PREDATOR"), Bill Moseley ("THE DEVIL'S REJECTS"), Tiffany Shepis ("NIGHT OF THE DEMONS" remake), Justin Pierre (singer of MOTION CITY SOUNDTRACK), Lydia Lunch (Richard Kern's "HARDCORE COLLECTION"), and Davey Havok (singer of A.F.I.) have signed on for the 'illustrated film' adaptation "GODKILLER," written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Matt Pizzolo ("THREAT") based on the comic book he created with illustrator Anna Muckcracker. Producer Halo-8 Entertainment will unveil a preview clip at Comic-Con International's Wondercon in San Francisco during the "Indie Film and Comics" panel on Saturday February 28, 2009.
"I'm astonished and excited by the incredible talents who'll be joining us to bring these characters to life. We want to create something really cool and unique and different from everything else out there... it's truly humbling to have such accomplished collaborators on the team," said Pizzolo. |
The 'illustrated film' Pizzolo is creating for the adaption mixes elements of anime, radio drama, video games, and motion comics. Utilizing the original artwork from the comic book, the 'illustrated film' adds motion animation, visual effects, elaborate sound design, music, and voice-acting performances. Halo-8 intends to release limited-edition, serialized, short-form DVDs through the Spring and Summer before releasing the full-length feature theatrically in Fall 2009.
Pizzolo explained "when we decided to make an anime adaptation of the comic book, I couldn't see how a traditional animated approach would do justice to Anna's incredibly lush and detailed illustrations. It made perfect sense to adapt the medium to suit her art, rather than vice versa."
GODKILLER takes place in a dark-future after economic collapse, after nuclear holy war, and after Earth is colonized by alien races. Tommy and his kid sister Lucy live in an orphanage in one of the few remaining city-states, but Lucy is critically ill and desperately in need of a new heart. Tommy's odyssey to find a new heart for his sister begins when he follows an organ-stealing prostitute named Halfpipe out of the city-state and into the savage borderland known as Outer City. GODKILLER mixes unforgiving brutality, quantum physics, conspiracy theory, and secret history for an iconoclastic hero's journey like none before it.
Pizzolo and Halo-8 are currently putting together a team for the 'illustrated film' based on his comic book "HOW I LOST MY VIRGINITY -BY ALEXANDRA JONES," as well as other titles Halo-8 has in development. |
